Surge in CWG panel’s budget under scanner
Amid allegations of costly purchases, hiring and jacked up contracts in connection with the Commonwealth Games-2010, the revenue intelligence agencies have now begun probing how the Organising Committee’s (OC) own budget for conducting the Games went up from Rs 737 crores in 2005-06 to cross the Rs 2,000 crore-mark, an increase of about 300 per cent.

The contracts awarded to a foreign firm by the organising committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010, led by Suresh Kalmadi, for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games are now under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate.
Shah told Chudasama to threaten Sohrab’s family
Investigations by the CBI into the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case have revealed that one of the IPS officers of Gujarat — Abhay Chudasama, who was also associated with the state police’ probe into the alleged fake encounter — threatened the family members of the victim to withdraw a petition filed in the Supreme Court for a probe. The agency found out that the officer was doing this at the behest of Amit Shah, Gujarat’s former minister of state (Home).
CBI wants to quiz Modi in Sohrab probe
The CBI, probing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, is likely to question Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in this connection. It is also likely to file a status report with the Supreme Court in a few days, in which it is expected to argue that questioning Mr Modi is crucial to ascertaining certain facts in the case.
