UP local bodies’ polls without party symbols

The Mayawati government on Friday decided to hold the local bodies’ elections without party symbols.
A formal decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the state Cabinet here on Friday.
While chief minister Mayawati had already expressed her inclination to alter the traditional practice of holding elections on party lines, a formal decision was taken by the state cabinet Friday.

3 BJP mlas suspended

The BJP on Friday suspended three party MLAs for cross-voting in the just-concluded Rajya Sabha polls. MLAs Banwari Ram from Bihar, Bhimsen Chaudhary from Orissa and Ram Chandra from Jharkhand were suspended for not voting in favour of the BJP candidate or abstaining in the biennial polls on Thursday.
