A storm at night and rain in the morning brought respite to Delhiites from simmering heat and made the day pleasant.
In the morning, the sky became overcast with clouds and it started raining around 8.30 am in most parts of the city. People turned their air conditioners and coolers off and opened their windows and doors to let the cool breeze in.
Yatra tracks unlikely to be ready in time
Even as the VHP and some other right-wing Hindu groups have threatened to start this year’s Amarnath yatra on June 15, about a fortnight early than planned by the concerned authorities, it is unlikely that the tracks to the 12,729-foot-high cave shrine will be ready for devotees embarking on the arduous journey through rugged hills of southeast Kashmir.
3 held for murder in Rajasthan
The Delhi police on Thursday arrested three men for allegedly killing a man whose wife was in an illicit relationship with one of the accused.
The main accused, Parmanand, 28, allegedly killed Ashok from his village in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan with his two friends.

The 2G scam accused, DMK MP Kanimozhi, on Saturday woke up to reality in a 15 ft by 10 ft cell of Tihar Jail. Jail officials said she woke up at 5.30 am, had morning tea and breakfast after a roll call with fellow inmates and then went out for a walk with a constable provided for her security on the prison premises.
Cops arrest main accused in Bihar
A special team of the Delhi police’s south district, which had been dispatched to Bihar to nab the accused in the MMS scandal that rocked Jawaharlal Nehru University early this year, arrested a 23-year-old expelled student for allegedly filming a female friend in a compromising position with him and later circulating the CD.
The accused, Janardan Kumar is a native of Gaya district in Bihar. He was enrolled as a student of Korean studies at JNU.
Inflation pressure will stay: Pranab
The Pension Regulatory Bill and the Insurance Bill are expected to be cleared in the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the AGM of the Indian Banks’ Association on Saturday, Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said that with the cooperation of all the political parties, he expects that the two bills will be cleared in the Monsoon Session.

Ayush Tandon, 12, stars as the child version of protagonist “Pi” Patel in director Ang Lee’s new film even as another Indian boy plays his teenaged avatar. The Mumbai boy has wrapped up his part for the 3D Hollywood movie, Life of Pi. He shot in places like Taiwan and Pondicherry (now renamed Puducherry).
Land bill core: Food security
Amid suggestions pouring in from all sides on the proposed Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill, the Union rural development ministry officials are deliberating to invoke food security concerns as central theme for the proposed land legislation. The officials are seeking to incorporate success stories of the Forest Conservation Act to ensure that the size of the irrigated agricultural land does not shrink to jeopardise food security.
