Storm, rains bring respite from heat
A storm at night and rain in the morning brought respite to Delhiites from simmering heat and made the day pleasant.
In the morning, the sky became overcast with clouds and it started raining around 8.30 am in most parts of the city. People turned their air conditioners and coolers off and opened their windows and doors to let the cool breeze in.
The office-goers and schoolchildren were seen carrying umbrellas. The commuters preferred auto due to rain. Others were seen taking rickshaws to reach Metro or bus stands instead of walking down.
The weatherman said that cyclonic circulation over Punjab and its neighbourhood resulted in the precipitation in the city and it is likely to continue.
The maximum temperature in the city had been hovering above 40 degrees Celsius for the past few some days and the mercury had shot up to the season’s highest of 44.1º Celsius on May 17. On Friday, the city registered a high of 40º Celsius.
On Saturday the city’s maximum temperature came down to 32.4º Celsius and the minimum was 26.1º Celsius, a degree lower than Friday’s 27.1º Celsius.
The weatherman has predicted rains and thundershowers on Sunday too and the temperature to hover around 35º Celsius.
