Mayawati orders release of Banda rape victim

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati Saturday announced the release from jail of a 17-year-old rape victim who had been implicated in a theft case by a ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from Banda.

BSP MLA held in rape case

Purshottam Naresh Dwiwedi, the BSP MLA from Banda accused of raping a minor girl and then implicating her in a false theft case when she threatened to go to the police, was arrested Thursday from Lucknow and taken to Banda. Two of his aides, also co-accused, were arrested in Banda Wednesday night. The girl is still languishing in jail on theft charges.

Way cleared for arrest of BSP MLA

The Mayawati government has finally cleared the way for the arrest of BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who has been accused of raping a minor girl in Banda district.
