Way cleared for arrest of BSP MLA
The Mayawati government has finally cleared the way for the arrest of BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who has been accused of raping a minor girl in Banda district.
“The process for the MLA’s arrest has begun and will soon be arrested since the preliminary report of the CB-CID finds him guilty,” Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters here on Wednesday.
Mr Singh said the CB-CID report was a preliminary one and if police involvement in covering up the crime is found, then they would also be prosecuted.
A preliminary inquiry by the CB-CID found that the MLA had raped the teenager and framed her in a false theft case.
The Bahujan Samaj Party had suspended him from the party till the findings of the inquiry report were not received.
