Probe agencies found proof blaming Kalmadi for delays

For the first time, the probe agencies are believed to have found evidence to directly link sacked chairman of the Organising Committee (OC) Suresh Kalmadi with “deliberate” delays in awarding of contracts related to the Commonwealth Games. The Central probe agencies have held him responsible for deliberate delays in awarding of contracts related to catering worth `66.59 crores to an Australian firm, Delaware North, and installation of the kitchen equipment to PKL London.

CBI to probe 35 appointments by CWG

The Central probe agencies, including the CBI, have taken serious note of the appointment of 35 advisers by the top brass of the Organising Committee (OC) in different fields in connection with the Commonwealth Games (CWG) and are investigating further to ascertain the circumstances under which they were appointed. The probe has revealed that the advisors, though being paid a hefty sum every month or on every visit, did not even submit monthly reports to the OC. The OC has already been facing several allegations of irregularities regarding appointments of foreign consultants and paying them at a heavy price.

‘Mismanagement of `450cr by OC’

Probe by the Central agencies has revealed mismanagement of a total of `450 crores allegedly by the members of the Organising Committee (OC) of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in conduct of the mega sporting event. The OC, headed by Suresh Kalmadi, was granted a total of `1,813 crores by the Central government for the smooth conduct of the Games.

CBI: Foreigners acted as middlemen

The CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in overlays contracts has revealed that certain “foreign nationals” allegedly played the role of middlemen between the Organising Committee members and the overseas firms whose Indian consortiums had bagged the contracts.
