CBI scrutinises top OC officials’ emails
The CBI, which is probing various cases of corruption in the conduct of the Commonwealth Games, has now started scrutinising email details of the top brass of the Organising Committee (OC). The agency is likely to make some “significant arrests” in connection with its probe related to the CWG very soon.
According to sources, the approval for certain contracts was given through emails by the OC members. The CBI has got evidence about correspondence between the private firms and some of the members of the OC through emails regarding finalising of deals, they added. Some of these emails also had references related to dilution of terms and conditions of a certain contracts, sources added.
“More than 100 such emails of the OC members are under the scanner of the probe agency. Primarily, emails of only four top brass of the OC are being scrutinised by the CBI,” sources said.
Probe by the CBI has already revealed that two emails were allegedly forged by the officials of OC to justify the selection of the firms in connection with the contract related to the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) held in London last year, sources said. Now, the agency is comparing the original documents of certain contracts with the email (which was sent later by the OC members) and with the photo-copies of the documents, sources added.
