‘Check child trafficking for Games’

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) and the Slum and JJ wing of the MCD are in consultation over ways to ensure that children do not fall victim to trafficking, prostitution and child labour during Commonwealth Games 2010.

‘Arjun may have given Anderson release order’

In another revelation in the ongoing controversy over the events post-Bhopal gas tragedy which led to release of former Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson, former Madhya Pradesh home secretary K.S. Sharma on Friday said that then chief minister Arjun Singh may have given directions to officials for his release. He also claimed that despite being the home secretary he was not kept in the loop and “not informed about Anderson’s release”.

HC holds man guilty of murder

The Delhi high court has dismissed the appeal of a man, who was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a lower court here, after holding him guilty of killing his beloved at a hotel in Nabi Karim area in Central Delhi seven years ago. The victim, Sweety, a married woman, had eloped with Mahender Kumar Maurya. The prosecution alleged that Sweety was allegedly murdered by Maurya and the body was found in a suitcase in a Nabi Karim hotel.

Tankha to head Bhopal panel

An expert panel headed by the Madhya Pradesh additional solicitor-general, Vivek Tankha, will be looking into the legal aspects concerning the Madhya Pradesh trial court verdict on the Bhopal gas tragedy case.

Aspiring model accuses man of rape

A 28-year-old aspiring fashion model has alleged that she was raped in Greater Kailash area by a man who promised her employment with a leading fashion brand.
Police officials said the victim, who lives in F block of Greater Kailash I, alleged that she met the accused Umesh Aggarwal, a fashion photographer, through a social networking site last year and Umesh had assured the victim to help her get a break with an international fashion brand.

Demand for 85% seats in DU for city students

Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel on Friday led a protest sit in to demand 85 per cent reservation for students of the city in admissions to Delhi University colleges.
Under the aegis of Lok Abhiyan, Mr Goel brought in a number of students and their parents to press for reservation in seats in the Delhi University colleges by stating that the number of applicants far exceeded the available seats in Delhi University.
