HC holds man guilty of murder
The Delhi high court has dismissed the appeal of a man, who was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a lower court here, after holding him guilty of killing his beloved at a hotel in Nabi Karim area in Central Delhi seven years ago. The victim, Sweety, a married woman, had eloped with Mahender Kumar Maurya. The prosecution alleged that Sweety was allegedly murdered by Maurya and the body was found in a suitcase in a Nabi Karim hotel.
A division bench comprising Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Suresh Kait, while upholding the rigorous life imprisonment awarded by a sessions court, convicted Maurya on four counts, last seen evidence, his absconding from the hotel without checking out; his infatuation with the victim and victim’s jewellery that he had pawned.
Upholding the conviction, the bench said, “We find no merit in the appeal of the appellant (Maurya) which is dismissed.”
