Bangla officer’s plea to deport kin rejected

The Delhi high court has rejected the plea of a Bangladeshi Army officer seeking deportation of his daughter, who had crossed the border on alleged fake documents to marry a person she was in love with last year. The court said that the woman in question could be subjected to torture or even honour killing and agreed with the Centre’s contention that she was legally married to the man she loved.

NCW asks police to increase patrolling

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday submitted 12 demands to the Delhi police for safety of women in the city. The demands were presented during a meeting between the NCW chairperson Girija Vyas and the Delhi police chief B.K. Gupta. The meeting is believed to have taken place in the backdrop of the recent gangrape cases in Delhi.

Blueline phaseout deadline is January 31

The Delhi government on Tuesday backtracked on December 14 deadline for complete phaseout of Blueline buses and in place set a new deadline of January 31 next year. However, about 823 Blueline buses will stop plying on city roads from Wednesday, making the phase out of the killer private buses a gradual affair.

20-yr-old girl abducted, molested; youth held

In yet another case of kidnapping, a 20-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from outside a multiplex in the Prashant Vihar area of outer Delhi and later molested by a management student, who has been arrested by the police.

Bal says PC comment on migrants true

The Union home minister P. Chidambaram may have retracted his statement blaming migrants for crimes in Delhi, but Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Tuesday hailed the statement as true. The Sena president criticised the home minister for retracting his statement later and demanded the permit system for Delhi and Mumbai.

CVC wants details of contracts given over 3 months

The Chief Vigilance Commission (CVC) has asked the vigilance departments of all the ministries to send details about the contracts awarded in the last three months. Sources have pointed out that besides asking for details of contracts valued at over `2 crores from various ministries, the CVC has also asked for the details of civil and electrical works done in various ministries.

Ex-CJI Verma for media self-regulation

Former Chief Justice of India J.S. Verma, who is also the chairman of News Broadcasting Standards Authority a self-regulatory body for news channels, on Tuesday advocated self regulation for the media.

NGO moves SC for CBI monitoring of 2G probe

After seeking Supreme Court monitoring of the CBI probe into the 2G scam case and Supreme Court reserving its verdict on the issue, NGO CPIL on Tuesday moved a further PIL in the Supreme Court for cancelling all 2G licences on the ground that there was large scale corruption and irregularities, allegedly committed by former communications minister A Raja and some allotee companies.

Chandolia probed over documents recovered

The CBI on Tuesday questioned R.K. Chandolia, personal secretary to former telecom minister A. Raja, again in connection with its probe into the 2G spectrum scam.
According to sources Mr Chandolia was confronted with the documents recovered by the agency officials during recent searches on Tuesday.

Lavasa: MoEF refuses to lift its ‘stop-work’ order

The environment ministry on Tuesday refused to lift its “stop-work” order on the controversial hill-city project of Lavasa in Maharashtra. The ministry said a final decision in the case will be taken by the month-end after hearing the company again. Meanwhile, in a statement issued, Lavasa Corporation Limited said that the ministry’s interim order was under pressure from political activists and made without “objective verification and physical site assessment.”
