Chandolia probed over documents recovered
The CBI on Tuesday questioned R.K. Chandolia, personal secretary to former telecom minister A. Raja, again in connection with its probe into the 2G spectrum scam.
According to sources Mr Chandolia was confronted with the documents recovered by the agency officials during recent searches on Tuesday.
It is also believed that former deputy director general (access services) in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Mr A.K. Srivastava, was also questioned by the CBI on Tuesday in connection with 2G spectrum scam.
The CBI has already registered a case against unknown officials of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and representatives of certain private companies in connection with the award of Unified Access Service (UAS) licences.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is also probing the 2G spectrum scam, has reportedly decided to send a “letter of request” to authorities concerned in certain countries in order to gather details about the alleged investments made by those who reportedly benefited from the 2G spectrum scam.
The ED has already registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act against unknown officials of the DoT and unknown private companies in connection with the award of new telecom licenses in 2008.
“The ED is likely to send LR to tax havens like Isle of Man, Cyprus and Mauritius besides UAE, Norway, Singapore, Libya, and Russia. Most of the private telecom companies that had bagged the spectrum had their subsidiaries and business partners situated in foreign countries,” sources said.
