NRIs hire detectives to spy on kin

It is that time of the year again, when people go partying on New Year’s Day, and private eyes rake in the moolah keeping tabs on them.
Detectives in Mumbai are being flooded with calls from clients, seeking information on what their children or fiancés or spouses are doing on New Year’s Day. The detectives are charging as much as `20,000 a day for their services.

“We have been approached by NRIs to keep a tab on their spouses to check if they are cheating on them. We will be sending them live feeds if we find our targets behaving indecently,” said Utpal Chaudhry from Lotus Detectives.
According to Mr Chaudhary, the detectives will be keeping a track of their targets from two days in advance and keep a watch on people they meet. “We will follow them everywhere on December 30, taking pictures whenever necessary,” he said.
Besides spying on their wives, NRIs have also hired the detectives to keep a watch on their children whom they suspect might be keeping bad company. “We have got a few cases this year from parents who are working abroad but their children are in the city. They have asked us to follow them and inform them if their children attend rave parties and do not fall in with the wrong kind of people,” Mr Chaudhary said.
Priya from Global Detectives said, “We charge `20,000 per day. The cost of the entry at the venue of the party, if any, will be charged extra.”
On Christmas, Mr Chaudhry said, his agency caught a flight attendant cheating on her fiancé, a software professional from Lokhandwala Complex.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
