Youth bid adieu to Jobs, guru of cool

The world has lost the man behind the coolest gadgets like the iPod, iPhone, iPad and various other innovations. Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc who lost his long-drawn battle with pancreatic cancer yesterday, will continue to live in the hearts of many around the world. As the city mourns over his loss, youngsters share how they’ll miss the thinking head who changed their lives forever with his technological innovations.
Rajat Arora, who works at Barclays, Noida, says, “He taught the world that they can live dreams when they start thinking differently. Without him, I don’t know if we would be able to get to the next level of technology. He gave a different turn to digital technology, which then took marketing on a new platform. Apple, for instance, brought a revolution in all aspects of human lives.”
For JNU student Sumati Arora, Apple will forever be incomplete without Steve. “It’s a half-eaten apple now, for Apple is incomplete without him. He knew the meaning of ‘beautiful technology’ and changed the world. It would not have been the same without him,” she adds.
For musician Subir Malik, “His products did not only get huge amount of money for his own business, but there are numerous small software developers who earned and established themselves through the applications sold on Apple products.”
It seems like an age of digital revolution has come to an end. “An era is over. The world definitely owes him deep gratitude,” concludes Nishant Chaudhary, a student.

Steve Jobs wasn’t a techie as much as he was a visionary. Just look at the most iconic inventions of his, the iPod, the MacBook or the iPad. There existed music players before the iPod and Apple certainly didn’t invent the PC. But they are still the most widely selling products in the tech world because he took something that existed, gave it his own tweaks, and modified it to improve human lifestyles.
On a personal level, I love the iPad. I’m actually addicted to it, and I use it to an extent that I don’t feel the need to use any other gizmo save a phone to make calls. I write my stories and scripts on it, I listen to music, watch movies on it. I even have my ad films saved on it, so I have them with me on the go. It takes the best features of a PC and puts it into a portable device. In fact, it’s so convenient that even the lack of a physical keyboard with tactile feedback doesn’t make much difference.

I think I’m probably among the first ones in India to have owned an iPod and I felt extremely privileged then. I don’t think I’ve looked beyond Apple when it comes to technology. Steve Jobs was just an incredible man, a game-changer, who always thought different. I’m sure the brand will carry forward his legacy and continue surprising generations to come.

The main reason I converted (or went back to Apple) was the epic user experience I'd get, as compared to Windows. Today, I use three Apple products (Macbook, iPod and iPad) and all of them are an integral part of my professional life. Use the iPad as a teaching tool, the MacBook for my writing, and at times, the iPod for reading.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
