Now flaunt your fortune in style

An interesting union of fashion and fortune is slowly making a space in the lives of fashionistas. Some designers are coming up with creations based on various principles of astrology, tarot reading and horoscopes.

Recently tarot-card reader Poonam Sethi collaborated with Satya Paul for their autumn/winter 2010 collection. Shoe designer Swati Mehrotra of the label Swati Modo make customised-astro shoes based on horoscopes. And designer Kappil Kishore, a fortune designer, has done a research on Vedas for a decade to find a new theory on Fashion Astrology with which he creates designs according to zodiac signs.
People behind the new-found “fortune fashion” believe that in recent time, people have become very particular about their birth charts, numbers and colours that suit them. Kappil, talks about one of his clients who was having a hard time during her pregnancy. “I suggested dresses according to her zodiac sign and she is feeling much better now,” he says, adding that a lot of young people come to him to get their job interview dress and trousseau designed.
Poonam talking about the Satya Paul collection says, “Tarot reading, if followed properly, makes a huge impact. The awareness about it has increased and I’m very sure that the concept would be liked by many.”
Puneet Nanda from Satya Paul, though accepts that the idea of a tarot-collection came up just because he needed something new to showcase, he adds that if it catches up the theme is here to stay for long.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
