London goes gaga over Brand India
The recent turn of events in London have taken the whole world by surprise as “Brand India” has shine with bright colours even before the Indian Olympians won any medal.
First it was Amitabh Bachchan, who carried the Olympic flame at Southwark, London, a day before the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. It was a “proud moment” for the people of India to see Mr Bachchan carrying the Olympic flame on its final leg. He jogged and briskly walked with the torch for a distance of 300 metres.
“OK!! HERE IT IS. Have been invited by the London Olympic Organising Committee to carry the torch in the relay tomorrow... Honoured to be asked to carry the Olympic torch in London at Southwark around 10:30 am! A proud moment for me and country,” Mr Bachchan had tweeted.
“It was a huge moment for us to see the Big B jogging with the Olympic flame. In London too, we Indians are not lagging behind to make a mark,” said Angshuman Deb, who works with EXL.
Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh wrote on Twitter, “Proud moment for all Indians to see Amit uncle carry the Olympic torch. :) :).”
It’s not only Amitabh Bachchan who has suddenly shifted the spotlight in London towards India, but A.R. Rahman and Ratan Tata, too, are not behind in giving the “Brand India” image a huge boost.
A.R. Rahman composed the Punjabi track called Nimma nimma for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. This should not come as a surprise to many as Danny Boyle, Oscar-winning director, and Rehman worked together in Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, directed the opening ceremony for the London Olympics.
“It’s part of a medley in the Olympics opening ceremony, according to Danny Boyle’s creative wishes!” Rahman wrote on his Facebook page.
Recently Ratan Tata became the United Kingdom’s biggest manufacturer, with almost 40,000 workers — just ahead of British Aerospace. His empire ranges beyond vehicles, taking in telecom, agrichemicals, IT and plain tea.
“Businesses do not always live up to what they preach, but it’s not the Tata philosophy to strip and sell, but instead to invest and grow,” said a report in the Guardian, Tata is surely one Indian who is making his global feat visible in every sphere.
“People like Ratan Tata and A.R. Rahman are globally known figures. They don’t need any kind of introduction in any part of the world. However, it is sad that we are so tangled in our petty issues that we have no time to enjoy in their achievements,” says Sharmistha Choudhury, an advocate in the Supreme Court.
So there’s more to India than just being called the most vibrant democracy in the world and a place where corruption breeds in every nook and cranny of the country. Although the list of negative news is on the rise, the list of positives is also getting longer. It’s a proud moment for all of us, which we should enjoy and recognise. As they say, Sau mein se ninnanwe baiman phir bhi always mera desh mahan!
