Power cut forces health minister to give speech sans microphone
A power cut forced state health minister Suryakanta Mishra to give his speech without the microphone at a programme in R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH) on Tuesday. This left the medical college authorities red-faced.
The state finance minister and governing body president of the medical college, Asim Dasgupta who was also present in the programme has sought a report on the power cut from the medical college authorities.
The ministers were taking part in the inauguration programme of the cathlab at the cardiology department, MRI scanner and brachytherapy treatment facilities for the cancer patients at the auditorium on the sixth floor of the academic building in the medical college. As Dr Mishra started his address on the dais at around 2.30 pm, the entire auditorium plunged into darkness. Helpless, the health minister expressed his regret and said, “It is a technical fault” before continuing his speech without any microphone. The power supply was restored at the auditorium at 2.40 pm when Dr Mishra was about to conclude his address.
RGKMCH superintendent L.K. Vaid said, “Installation of eight AC machines at the auditorium created an overloading in the electric lines.”
