Julia claims she is a Hindu, visits temples
Hollywood actress Julia Roberts, whose new film Eat, Pray, Love is due to release soon, has admitted in an interview that she is now a practising Hindu.
The 42-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who had visited India for the shooting of the film, however, did not reveal whether she had converted to Hinduism during her shooting stint in India.
The film is based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling book of the same name and is about her travels around the world, including India, in a quest to find herself after her divorce.
In the book, she visits Italy for food, India for spirituality, and Bali, where she finds love.
The mother-of-three, who is married to cinematographer Danny Moder, told the September issue of the American edition of Elle magazine, “I’m definitely a practising Hindu. Golly, I’ve been so spoiled with my friends and family in this life. Next time I want to be just something quiet and supporting.”
The actress, who was born to Methodist and Catholic parents, also revealed that she and her husband take their three children — Hazel, Phinnaeus and Henry — to Hindu temples to worship on a regular basis. Roberts said she goes to a temple to “chant, pray and celebrate”, according to excerpts of the interview published in the Daily Mail.
