Top court refuses to re-open Bhopal gas case

Supreme Court turned down on Wednesday a government demand to re-open the case into the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy and hand harsher sentences to seven men convicted of negligence.

No satisfactory explanation given by CBI and MP Govt on filing curative petition after lapse of 14 years.

September 1996 judgement and order was never a fetter for CBI or MP Govt to seek enhancement of charges: SC
