Nithyanada surrenders in court near Bengaluru
After having gone into a hiding, 'tainted' godman Nithyananda has surrendered in Ramanagaram district court near Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The Karnataka chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda had earlier passed orders to take criminal action against Nithyananda and also seize his Dhyanapeetam ashram at Bidadi on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
It may be noted that the controversial godman was arrested earlier on charges that included unnatural sex based on a tape that allegedly featured him with an actress. The video was broadcast on a local channel in 2010. Howevere, he was released on bail.
However, the Karnataka governmenet wants his bail to be cancelled now despite the efforts of Nithyananda to get the FIR against him quashed.
Karnataka government had sealed his large ashram in Bidadi on Monday after clashes between his supporters and Kannada activists.
The government had ordered an inquiry by the regional commissioner and the District Collector of Ramanagaram has been instructed to conduct a search of the ashram premises and give a report after that.
