Name the car and Reddy has it
Mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy’s collection of luxury cars would make any millionaire go green with envy.
These cars and his helicopters have been lying idle in his garage under police custody for the last four and a half months after they were seized by sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) following his arrest in September last year.
Known for his extravagant lifestyle, cars were Janardhan Reddy's biggest indulgence. Topping the list is the Rolls Royce Phantom, a Maserati, a Rs 3 crore Continental GT Coupea, a Rs 3 crore Range Rover sports car, a Mercedes-Benz limousine, a Toyota Land Cruiser, an Audi and a fleet of Mitsubishi Pajeros.
He owns a Volvo bus valued at Rs 5 crore named 'Rukmini', which was used for his political road shows. Mr Reddy also owns more than a dozen Indian built cars, which are kept in a specially built car park with dedicated staff appointed for their upkeep.
However, according to the chargesheet filed by the CBI, only two costly foreign cars – the Rolls Royce and the Maserati— have been seized from his house.
The Rolls Royce bears a Bellary town registration number— KA-34-C-01— while the Maserati does not have a number and does not seem to have been used even once. The chargesheet states that both vehicles have been handed over to Bellary police for safe custody as the CBI cannot produce it in a Hyderabad court due to security reasons.
The CBI also seized 57.89 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 2.94 crore in cash from Reddy’s house. He had purchased a Bell 407 helicopter for his personal use but registered it in the name of Obulapuram Mining Company Private Limited (OMCPL). This chopper was seized and handed over to Deccan Charters Ltd for safe custody at Jakkur aerodrome in Bengaluru.
