Freed on bail, Pinki claims cops, docs mistreated her
Walking out free on bail from Dum Dum Central Jail after spending 26 days there, 2006 Asian Games gold medallist Pinki Pramanik lashed out at doctors and the police Wednesday, and demanded a fresh probe. At 9.40 am Pinki’s father Durgacharan Pramanik and a group led by Jyotirmoyee Sikdar greeted her.
Said Pinki: “Two policemen, not in uniform, arrested me and forcibly took me to the nursing home where most doctors were male. They undressed me without care and sensitivity. As I refused the medical test and cried for help, they pushed an injection (into me), leaving me unconscious. After regaining my senses, I found my hands and legs tied.”
She added: “I felt I was undergoing agnipariksha which Sita had undergone in Ramayan. Their (doctors’) licences should be taken away. My fellow inmates in jail showed respect, (but) the police did not ever help me... When Anamika Acharya (complainant) framed me for rape, why was she spared undergoing the medical test? She should have undergone the test before me.”
