Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Nov. 30
Senior Congress leader Anil Shastri said the present stalemate over the FDI could have been avoided while party MP from Uttar Pradesh Praveen Singh Aron struck a cautious note on the issue. “The govt should’ve consulted Congress leaders before taking such a major policy decision on FDI in retail to avoid embarrassment within party. The government should have consulted Congress leaders, “CWC’s special invitee Anil Shastri said on the microblogging community site Twitter. Mr Shastri also felt that the government should have taken the allies into confidence in the backdrop of the strong opposition registered by DMK and Trinamul Congress to FDI.

FDI in retail will ‘enslave’ India: anna
Ralegan Siddhi, Nov. 30: Opposing FDI in the retail sector, activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday said the move would lead to enslavement of the countrymen and will not benefit the farmers as claimed by the government. “If people are saying it (FDI) should not happen, why are you insisting? The British came to India to trade and for 150 years, ruled us, enslaved us. Do you want to have a repeat?” he told a press conference here on Wednesday evening. “They (the foreign investors) will spoil the water and the environment. The government should consider this,” he said. On the claim that farmers will be benefited by FDI in retail, Mr Hazare said, “If it were so, in the 65 years after independence, farmers would not have committed suicides.”

FARMERS LET LOOSE SNAKES IN GOVT OFFICE in U.P.
age correspondent
Lucknow, Nov. 30
It was a novel way to treat government apathy and demands for bribe. Two farmers, also snake charmers, had been visiting the local tax office in Basti district asking for the tax records of their land in the nearby Naharpur village, but the local officials were holding back the same and demanding bribe. On Tuesday evening, the two farmers reached office with three bags filled with snakes and emptied them in the room. Panic prevailed in the office as more than 40 snakes, including four cobras, started slithering around. Officials, clerks and others were seen scurrying out to save themselves even as the snakes slithered up tables, chairs and file racks. Finally, forest officials were informed and snake catchers were summoned to catch the snakes.
