Army school — A ray of hope for the special kids
Now 10, Rupinder Kaur was detected with hearing and speech deficiency about two years ago. “Coming from Ferozepur in Punjab, I wasn’t sure about continuation of her education,” her father, Hawaldar Resham Singh of the National Security Guard, said. But hope came with Mr Singh’s posting in Hyderabad around the same time: Rupinder was admitted at Bison Asha School, which caters to ‘special children with special needs’. “The school has done wonders to her personality development and communication skills,” he said during a special programme at the institution on Wednesday.
Similarly, Subedar Sunil W., who admitted his son Rahul, 17, to the school in 2008, said, “There is a phenomenal improvement in my son’s physical capabilities and speech.” Opened in 2004, Bison Asha School, run by the Army for specially-abled children of defence personnel, has now extended its facilities to children from non-defence backgrounds as well. On Wednesday, the school celebrated Family Welfare Organisation Day, involving an entertainment programme with Rotary Club, Secunderabad.
