BJP asks CM to sack Chouhan

The Delhi BJP on Thursday demanded from chief minister Sheila Dikshit that she should sack state revenue minister Raj Kumar Chauhan immediately after the commissioner of Commercial Taxes Jalaj Srivastava testified against the minister.

Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta also sought a CBI probe against the minister. “The commissioner of Commercial Taxes Jalaj Srivastava has admitted before the Lokayukta that during the raid on Tivoli resort, the PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan had directed him on his private mobile phone that the raid on Tivoli should be stopped immediately,” Mr Gupta stated in a statement.
The Delhi BJP chief also stated that his party had first raised this issue that on one hand the city government is complaining about lack of fund and people are being burdened with various taxes and on the other hand many state ministers are helping in tax evasion.
“The commissioner of Commercial Taxes had in a confidential letter written to the state finance minister, A.K. Walia, had stated that Mr Chauhan is protecting tax evaders and the officials performing their duties honestly are being threatened of punishment. Due to this, the government treasury is suffering loss of crores of rupees every year,” Mr Gupta alleged.
He also stated that by taking suo moto cognisance, the Lokayukta issued notice to the commissioner of Commercial Taxes to be present in the court in person and to make the names of the minister and other persons public. “In response to this, the commissioner of Commercial Taxes named Mr Chauhan. The Delhi government should dismiss the minister and other officers involved in tax evasion, otherwise the BJP will start a strong movement and compel the government to punish its corrupt ministers and officers,” Mr Gupta stated.
