MiG crash kills 1 on ground, 25 injured
A villager was killed and 25 others injured when a MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in a field in Jalpaiguri on Saturday morning. The victim, B, Rai, was a farmer. At around 10.30 am the fighter jet crashed at the field during a routine sortie at Bhotputti village in between Moynaguri and Changrabandha minutes after it had taken off from the Hasimara airbase of the IAF.

Maoist, jawan die in Bengal encounter
A Maoist and a jawan of the state armed police (SAP) were killed in a violent encounter between the rebels and the joint security forces which lasted over six hours in Jhargram in West Midnapore on Sunday. The body of the rebel was recovered. At least two more rebels may have been critically injured in the encounter, the police said.
Maoist leader gave Bapi sabotage order
A top Maoist leader had sent written instructions to Bapi Mahato ordering him to carry out the train sabotage to cause maximum casualties. The arrested activist of People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA) has revealed this to the police during interrogation. State director general of police Bhupinder Singh informed this on Wednesday. “The leader is a central committee member of the CPI(Maoist) who has a very strong command in the Jangalmahal,” he said.

The arrested activist of People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities, Bapi Mahato obediently followed the Maoist command not just before but even after the Gyaneswari Express disaster on May 28. After carrying out the horrendous act of sabotage in the tracks which led to the derailment of the ill-fated train, the 23-year-old prime accused was in constant touch with the rebel leaders in the Jangalmahal.
