Antony orders detailed CBI probe
Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Tuesday ordered a CBI probe into the Adarsh land scam in Mumbai. This was ordered after his ministry completed the process of examining reports submitted on the Adarsh issue by the Army, Navy and defence estates department.
BJP wants Kalmadi arrested
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta on Tuesday demanded “immediate” arrest of the OC chairman of the just concluded Commonwealth Games Suresh Kalmadi. He also called for seizing of the passport of Mr Kalmadi.
Uddhav: Resignation not enough
Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday demanded action against all the persons involved in the Adarsh society scam. The Sena leader said that taking action against Ashok Chavan was not enough as he was not the only one involved in the scam. He also said that role of former Union minister Suresh Prabhu of the Shiv Sena should also be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Eunuchs to get `1K each month
In what is being seen as a first initiative of its kind anywhere in the country, eunuchs of the city have been brought within the social security net by the MCD on Tuesday by issuing a notification that will make the eunuchs eligible for a monthly pension of `1,000.
Action on green norms violation soon: Jairam
Environment minister Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday assured that action against Adarsh Housing Society in Mumbai for violating green norms will be taken in the next two-three days.
Removal comes as rude shock to Chavan
The Congress high command’s decision to accept chief minister Ashok Chavan’s resignation came as a rude shock for the outgoing state leader. The party high command had asked him to submit the resignation to governor K. Sankaranarayanan. However, the CM decided to first break the news to his close confidantes and then proceed to Raj Bhavan.

The government was in the Opposition’s firing line in the Lok Sabha, which was rocked on Tuesday by the Commonwealth Games, Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society and 2G spectrum scams. The government further embarrassed with the Opposition saying the resignation of Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan was not enough and that a thorough probe into the housing scam was needed.
ED mulls strict action against Lalit Modi
The Enforcement Directorate is mulling action that can be taken against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi in a bid to tighten the noose on him. The possibility of getting a red corner notice (RCN) issued through Interpol against him is also being looked into. Mr Modi has been continuously evading the summons by the ED, which has forced the ED to think about initiating stringent measures.

No resumption of non-basmati export
The government has turned down requests from state governments and private exporters to resume export of non-basmati rice, despite a bumper crop in 2010, in the wake of the proposed National Food Security Act.
