External affairs minister S.M. Krishna has vehemently denied the allegations made by Team Anna in a letter written to the Prime Minister in May and said the charges were made based on erroneous information, wrong facts, incorrect understanding and convenient interpretations to discredit him.

In a detailed letter to Mr Hazare, Mr Krishna said: “This is in response to the allegations levelled against me in May 2012. Firstly, the allegations made by you are related to the period between 1999-2004, when I was Karnataka Chief Minister and do not pertain to my present tenure as external affairs minister. At the outset, I deny every allegations made in the said letter and all statements made therein, which are far from the truth.”

Quoting former Lokyukta Justice N. Santhosh Hegde’s voluminous two-part report on illegal mining in the state, Mr Krishna said both reports clearly demonstrate that nowhere did the Lokayukta find any wrongdoing on his part let alone indict him on any count. Training guns on two prominent Team Anna members — noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal — Mr Krishna charged that Mr Bhushan’s letter on behalf of Mr Kejriwal, tried to build a case against him relying on a note sent by his Officer on Special Duty.

It may be appreciated that as the head of government, any chief minister would receive petitions/ representations/applications relating to various departments and from different quarters. There is nothing wrong if the CM's office make a reference to any particular case to the departments concerned, who are supposed to act as per the law. Therefore it would be far fetched to conclude that my OSD's letter was meant to communicate an order from me to Mysore Minerals Limited(MML) to take a decision in favour of a particular company,” he contended.

Lashing out at social activist T.J. Abraham who has filed a case against him, Mr Krishna observed that a false case was being attempted by the Activist. Taking strong exception to Team Anna objecting to his decision to challenge the complaints against him in the Supreme Court, Mr Krishna asserted, "I am a little surprised and confused that you and your colleagues take objection to even my approaching the Hon'ble Supreme Court to contest the baseless allegations made against me."
