Goons assault couple, cops dither
The Gangammanagudi police, who swiftly solved the Rs 44 lakh cash van robbery recently, have however shown blissful inaction in a case of gruesome attack on a family. The victim Mukhtiar Pasha’s family alleged that a real estate agent, who had the backing of the local MLA, has been pressurising them to vacate their own house in Kalanagar in Jalahalli West. Around 15 henchmen of real estate agent Karthik attacked
Mr Pasha and his wife causing serious injuries to both. While Mr Pasha is being treated in ICU at Bangalore Hospital, the Gangammanagudi police registered an FIR stating that a quarrel over parking space led to the injuries on August 2 around 8 pm. Mr Pasha’s brother Yasin said though the accused have used lethal weapons, police registered a case under Section 324 of IPC (voluntarily causing injury) on Sunday. “One Manikantaswamy and Karthik have been pestering my brother to vacate the house. My brother runs a shop in the nearby area and we have been living there for the last 10 years. The duo has been harassing us for the last few months and, on Thursday night, around 15 thugs came to the house with weapons and threatened us to either sell the house or vacate it. They attacked my brother, his wife Fayam Unneesa, and fled the spot,” Mr Yasin said.
The Gangammanagudi police told Yasin not to make an issue as the attackers had the backing of the local MLA. After repeated requests, police shifted the injured to K.C. General Hospital. Later, on the doctors’ advice, Mr Pasha was shifted to NIMHANS. “His condition deteriorated at NIMHANS and we had to shift him to Bangalore Hospital where he is under observation in ICU. He has sustained serious injuries,” Mr Yasin said. When Gangammanagudi police refused to register a complaint, Mr Yasin gave a representation to the police commissioner on Saturday.
On Saturday evening, the police registered an FIR stating that the fight was due to a quarrel over parking. Mr Yasin said the police had taken a signature from Mr Pasha while shifting him to K.C. General Hospital. However, the Gangammanagudi police inspector refuted it saying four people have been arrested for the incident. “It was a petty fight over parking of the car in front of Mr Pasha’s house. The accused are from the nearby lanes. We are investigating”, the inspector said.
