‘My family is my priority’
Sangeeta Ghosh is back on television after a long hiatus with her new show called Kehta Hai Dil…Jee Le Zara. She had taken a long sabbatical from work because she wanted to spend time with her family. “I was so busy doing shows at that time that I didn’t have any to spend with my family. That was when I realised that I need some family time. I don’t regret the break at all. I am more than happy to have spent some quality time with people I love and care about,” the actress says.
And now that she is back, Sangeeta couldn’t have been happier. “It feels like a homecoming. I missed being in front of the camera. I almost felt like a newcomer on my first day,” she says with a smile.
During her break, Sangeeta was often asked when would she make a comeback. “My fans were disappointed when I went off on a break. I was asked every now and then when I would return. I had promised them then that I would, when I have something worthwhile in hand. So here I am now. I hope my fans continue to love and support me,” she says. This show seems to fit the bill of what she thinks is “worthwhile”. “It’s a simple story and I am sure people will identify with my character. It’s about the day-to-day challenges working women face. My character Saanchi is a strong, selfless, free-spirited and responsible woman. I am somewhat like her only. When my parents used to be unwell, I used to take care of the house and my little brother. Even now, as a working woman, I am taking care of my household. So yes, you can say that Sangeeta Ghosh is very much like Sanchi.”
Before the long break, Sangeeta was part of two of televisions most popular shows —- Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand and Mehndi Tere Naam Ki. Speaking of one of her former co-stars, Aruna Irani, Sangeeta says, “Working with her has been one of the best experiences ever. I learnt a lot and I shall be forever indebted to her for being my mentor. She once told me told me ‘I wish I was like you when I was your age.’ She couldn’t have given me a better compliment. I will always feel her absence but I also know that whenever I need her she will be around to guide me.”
On the personal front, Sangeeta suffered a setback last year when she lost her father. “I had a tough time coping with the loss. I have realised that family is much more important than work. Even though I am back to work, family will always be my priority. I am trying to strike a healthy balance between the two.” Sangeeta, who is in a long-distance marriage, adds, “My husband and I don’t stay together but he always encourages me to work and comes and meets me whenever he has the time. I think what matters the most is that I love him and he loves me back. That’s more than enough,” she says.
