‘Lauren adjusted well at my home’

Punit Pathak and Lauren Gottlieb are a force to reckon with in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa this season. The two have been creating magic on stage and have forced the judges to give them that coveted perfect 30 in almost every episode. While most feel this duo will win the competition this season, there have also been rumours of the channel being biased towards particular contestants. Punit however, seems unaffected by this. He says, “If we bother about such talk it will affect our performance. We are working with blinkers right now and focusing on our own acts. The rest is for the judges and the audience to decide. They know who deserves to get what marks.”
Lauren is living with Punit and he says that he finds it amazing how well she has bonded with his family. He says, “She is getting used to living in Mumbai and it amazes me because even if someone comes from another city it takes time to adjust to the fast pace of the city. For Lauren it hasn’t been much of a problem though she has come from abroad. She gets along with my family very well and has adjusted well in my home.” While people may assume otherwise Punit asserts that the duo are just friends.
While Lauren is getting used to living in India there are the little things that still pose a problem for her. “Language is definitely a problem but I am used to being a Hindi translator, just like I was for Shibani Dandekar last season. I have to be with her all the time, even if she has to communicate something to the spot boys I have to explain what she needs,” says Punit.
Though the two have hectic rehearsals for the show, Punit says he makes sure his partner and he get an adequate amount of rest and he feels that helps improve their acts. He reveals, “If we are shooting for the episode on Wednesday, I make sure both of us take a break on Thursday. My mind is constantly thinking about what innovative act we should present next but physically it is only rest. We go watch a film or indulge in a massage on our day off.”
As the duo get ready for their performance the choreographer tells us that he is confident about maintaining their dream run in the show. “We have been getting amazing reaction especially after the shama-parwana act. Now it is all about maintaining our own level unlike someone like Sidhharth Shukla whose concern is about putting up a good act. Lauren is a good student and the trust she has in me is amazing. I am lucky to get a partner who is such an amazing dancer herself, so all I have to do is come up with out of the box ideas, execution is not a problem,” says Punit with a smile.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
