Kanchi’s glad to be back

Kanchi Kaul, who is busy shooting for her show Meri Bhabhi, is quite pleased with the way it’s turning out. She says, “I relate to my character; it’s very Indianised, something that I understand and identify with. The writers of the show have a very interesting concept in hand.”
The actress had taken a long break after her marriage to Shabbir Ahluwalia. Now that she is back in action, she’s enjoying this too. “After my wedding, I got to spend a lot of time with Shabbir. Then somewhere down the line Deeya and Tony approached me for the show. I liked the concept and hence agreed to be a part of it,” Kanchi says.
She plays a sister-in-law in the serial. Ask her about her real life sister-in-law and Kanchi says, “I am very close to my bhabhi Deepika. We have a lot in common and share a very special rapport.” Kanchi, who has to shoot all seven days of the week, has the utmost regard for her co-stars Kanwaljeet Singh, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Esha Kansara. “Esha is a very good and hard working girl and we have a lot of fun on the sets. Kanwaljeet and Supriya are veterans in their job and lovely as human beings too. They are very warm and they never assert their seniority on the sets. They make it very easy to be around them,” Kanchi says.
Now that she is back to work, Kanchi doesn’t get much time to spend with her husband. “We both leave in the morning and meet only for dinner. But we are supportive of each other’s career. We give opinion and feedback on each other’s work, which is very helpful.”
The husband-wife duo is very excited about their big screen venture. “We are producing the remake of Zanjeer and Shabbir does most of the work. It’s releasing next month and we are very excited,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
