‘I don’t question the creatives’

Manish Paul and Kapil Sharma are among TV’s most popular pairs as they leave the audience in “splits” on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6. Incidentally, this is the first time that the show has two male hosts. However, Manish says he was always confident about their pairing being a hit. The actor says, “I had worked with Kapil before and he is a good friend. It was the channel and creative team’s decision, that we host the show together, and I don’t question them. We had creative meetings before the show started and I knew Kapil and I would be able to pull it off.”
Manish reveals that initially, the channel wanted him to participate as a contestant but he opted to stay put as a host. “After hosting the previous season with Ragini Khanna, I was offered season six as a host. I told the team people love me as a host so I’d rather continue with that role,” he laughs.
While Manish may not be participating as a contestant in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, he surprises us by saying he might consider Bigg Boss. “I am too busy right now but I never say never. In the future, I might just do Bigg Boss, you never know.”
As of now, Manish has his hands full with two films where he plays the lead. He says, “I have Mickey Virus and Tere Bin Laden 2 coming up. In the former, I play a hacker who gets into trouble. In Tere Bin Laden 2, I play the lead, with Ali Zafar doing a cameo.”
Speaking about juggling ,films and TV, Manish quips, “I feel lucky that I am being offered so many good films. Tere Bin Laden 2 is being shot in Wai, so I have to keep coming back to Mumbai to shoot for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Though it’s just two episodes a week, it is very hectic.”
While Manish is known for his fantastic comic timing, the actor doesn’t believe that he might get slotted into a comic image. “Yes I have done a lot of comedy on television. In my upcoming films, I am doing everything from romance to action, so I don’t think the audience would be able to slot me in any such category,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
