Akash hopes for a bright future

Akash Sharma’s journey at Indian Idol Junior is commendable. This untrained singer, who hails from a village in Haryana, has impressed everyone from Salman Khan to Govinda. Quiz him about this and he grins from ear to ear and says, “I come from a small village and it feels good that such big stars are praising me. Sonakshi Sinha is my favourite and it was like a dream come true when she joined me on stage and danced with me.”
Speaking about the struggle before hitting the fame jackpot, the young man says, “My father is a fruit seller and though we do not come from a rich background, he has always encouraged me to follow my dreams. I haven’t trained in singing but used to practise by
listening to songs. My father would accompany me to all singing competitions and auditions. I feel the credit of the success I have attained goes to my father. He is with me even now in Mumbai, though I miss my mom and the rest of my family back home.”
Though the competition is tough the singer says that he is good friends with other contestants. He says, “There isn’t a dull moment when we are together. We have a lot of fun in the free time when we aren’t rehearsing.”
When asked about his future plans, Akash says with a smile, “I want to support my family and give them all the luxuries in life. I would love to be a playback singer in Bollywood. I want to sing for my favourite actors, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.”
Akash is known to sing in a female voice too and ask him if he would like to do it for any actress and he blushes, “My favourite: Sonakshi Sinha.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
