Indian juniors excel in Asian event
The Indian boys and girls tennis teams won the overall country championships to take top honours at the ITF Asia 14 and Under development championships at Manila, the Philippines.
The two-week tournament saw eight Asian teams — China, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and India — vie for top honours.
Besides, there were two mixed teams in the competition, that included top players from the rest of the Asian countries. The teams comprised of three boys and three girls each.
The Indian girls put up a commendable performance especially in the second week as they dominated the tournament.
Three players reached the semi-finals, with two of them cruising to the final.
Himani Mor bagged the singles title in the first week while Mihika Yadav took the honour in the second. The duo also came good in the doubles competition, winning the crown.
The Indian boys too had a successful outing. Nithin Kumar Sinha reached the final of the singles event, and clinched the doubles title along with Parikshith Somani.
