Technology of the future

Please let me know your opinion on Akai mobiles. Which battery should I go in for? What is the meaning of mAh?
B Anand, Hyderabad.

You should buy a mobile phone from a company which is more focussed on IT products and mobile phones. Mobile phone technology is vast and hence the requisite ex

pertise is essential to produce a real good regular or a smart mobile phone. Since Akai is basically an audio video company now launching mobiles and a new entrant, we have no feedback currently. Today, good quality mobile phones come with Lithium-ion batteries, which deliver 40 per cent more power, and are hence better than the earlier Nickekel metal hydride batteries which are now outdated. High-end mobile phone use Lithium Polymer the newest and most advanced cell phone battery technology. (mAh) abbreviation of Milliampere hour is one-thousandth of an ampere hour and is the measurement of a battery’s storage capacity. I disconnected my IPTV service due to its bad signal quality. I am interested in getting it only if IPTV provides HDTV signals. Is the HDMI cable connection facility available in New Delhi?
Bhagyendra Patel, New Delhi

IPTV in India has not evolved as expected. The playing field too has narrowed — the major players in the arena are MTNL, BSNL, MY-TV, Airtel and Reliance. The chances of HD in IPTV in India, presently are very dim. Globally, the only company which has successfully provided on IPTV HD is BEL Canada and there are mixed reactions regarding the picture quality. In India, there is hope of quality HD on IPTV from Reliance (ADAG) — they have recently acquired Digicom and now have an enormous subscriber base. Early next year, they will be offering DTH, IPTV, broadband and cable TV services under one roof. IPTV is totally dependent on internet. We recommend a wait and watch strategy till positive reports arrive. IPTV is the technology of the present and future and will evolve faster than one can think.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
