For a superior HT experience

The surge in sale of HT (home theatre) equipment has heralded in an era of quality sound and has enhanced the home-theatre joy. The consumer is now fully aware of the superior sound available to him or her and is not ready to settle for less. This has created many disillusioned buyers. Their main grouse being the difference in

sound quality experienced at the store and their house. They feel cheated since the same equipment sounds different in different places. Who is to be blamed — the dealer or the customer? Neither, the acoustics nor the placement of speakers is the real culprit.
Sound production and re-production is a very complex science where acoustic surfaces play an important role. Since reflection of sound from surfaces and sound waves projecting into the same place can react adversely with each other causing sound cancellation problems. Loudspeaker interaction, too, can affect the sound quality. Hence, speakers should be positioned rightly.
If you are going in for a high-end HT system, you should get a sound expert at the dealer’s to conduct a survey of the room where you wish to install the system. Let him check out if the room is acoustically suitable for the system-speakers combo you have selected. Get the dealer technician to install the system and place the speakers rightly to produce a similar HT effect you felt at the showroom.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
