The Indian Amazon?
Founded by a couple of breakaways from Amazon- Flipkart (www.flipkart.com) an E-commerce site selling mostly books (like Amazon) but with an India focus. Flipkart works by simplifying the process to the bare minimum — no online
registration, free home-delivery and crucially payment with cash on-arrival (in cities). Customers need no bank-accounts and needn’t pay before delivery.
I decided to test it out — I ordered a copy of George R.R. Martin’s A Dance With Dragons to a remote village in North India.
Surprisingly, not only did I get a 35% discount on the going Delhi rate — the book arrived in just three days in perfect condition.
E-Commerce in India has never really taken off in India but Flipkart’s way of doing business might just change that. Look it up, whether you need a textbook or an obscure work of fiction — with 7-million titles in store you’ll probably find what you’re looking for.
Not only can you get your books, but games, consoles, gadgets, appliances and phones too!! Now only if they could deliver my groceries...
