Zephra, Upamanyu in lead
Hyderabad, July 16: It was Zephra Currimbhoy and Upamanyu Dutta all the way at the ongoing Monsoon Regatta races being held at the Hussain Sagar lake here on Friday.
The race held in the morning session saw the girls defending champion Zephra of RMYC finishing second while Vishnu Saravanan of Pune finishing on top. Tarun Bhatia was third while Upamanyu and K.C. Ganapathy finished seventh and nineth respectively in the opening race.
There were light winds in the afternoon races that made it a lot more easier to navigate and Upamanyu literally came back to form. He displayed his skills in the longer course race at the noon session finishing the 3rd and 4th races with ease.
However, Zephra, Vishnu and Chintan Chhatbar did pose a challenge but Upamanyu opened up the lead in the last three legs to wrap up the race with more than 50 seconds.
At the end of the 4th race Zephra with one first position and two second positions displayed consistency and topped the fleet followed closely by Upamanyu Dutta and Vishnu Sarvanan in second and third spots respectively. The Marine Solutions Optimist Open Trophy is wide open and given the mixed results it remains to be seen who tops the honours.
