Sheila shield saves Suresh
New Delhi, July 26: Evading quote-hungry journalists seeking his reaction to the stunning verbal attack by Pargat Singh, Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi today had to plead Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to rescue him from the chasing scribes.
Kalmadi, also the chairman of the Commonwealth Organising Committee, which was on Monday officially handed over the R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex, found himself completely isolated when confronted with a barrage of questions from mediapersons on the comments made by Pargat, who called the IOA chief the “dirty face of Indian sports”.
“Nothing to say, please... please...,” said Kalmadi, running towards the main entrance of the Tennis Complex.
But, much to his disappointment, he found the official vehicle missing and ran towards the centre court of the complex where another bunch of mediapersons hounded him with the same set of questions.
“Please... please,” said Kalmadi.
On seeing Delhi chief Minister Sheila Dikshit coming out of the centre court after visiting the arena, Kalmadi went towards her and pleaded her to accommodate him in her official vehicle.
He was heard saying to the chief Minister: “These (mediamen) are asking questions on Pargat.”
Sheila, understanding Kalmadi’s predicament, obliged him and gave him space in her vehicle.
Kalmadi then left the venue smiling towards cameramen and photographers.
