Chelsea continue winning streak
London, Aug. 28: Chelsea maintained their superb start to the season with a 2-0 win over Stoke on Saturday that kept the Premier League champions on top of the table.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have made a flying start to the season, romping to successive 6-0 wins over West Brom and Wigan, and Stoke were unable to halt their momentum at Stamford Bridge. Florent Malouda struck in the first half and Didier Drogba converted a late penalty to extend Chelsea’s 100 percent start.
Earlier, Andrei Arshavin’s second-half winner gave Arsenal a 2-1 victory at Blackburn. Arsene Wenger had this week bemoaned Blackburn’s aggressive tactics in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Rovers in May and claimed Sam Allardyce’s team deliberately tried to turn the clash against the Gunners into a “rugby” match.
Allardyce responded to that jibe by describing Arsenal’s title winning teams as some of the dirtiest in the country, but it was Wenger’s Arsenal who had the last laugh thanks to Arshavin.
Theo Walcott had put Arsenal ahead in the 20th minute with a low finish.
