Bolt eyes newer vistas
Sydney, Sept. 17: Usain Bolt is considering his options after retiring from sprinting, which could come as early as the London 2012 Olympics.
On Friday, the world and Olympic 100 and 200-metres champion said he’d assess his career options after London, and could switch to the long jump.
This month, the 24-year-old Jamaican told British media he’d like to pursue a professional football career and gave himself another four years in track and field.
“Definitely I will go one more Olympics ... and from there I will decide what I want to do,” Bolt was quoted as saying on Friday by the Australian Associated Press. Bolt had earlier this week hoped to lower his 100 metres world record from 9.58 to 9.4 seconds, a mark he believes would never be beaten.
He also pointed out that bettering the time he set last year in Berlin was not an “obsession”. He is reportedly considering tackling the 400m and challenging American legend Michael Johnson’s 1999 record of 43.18 seconds.
