Aamer warned after collision with Ponting
London, July 14: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamer has been warned about his future conduct by match referee Chris Broad after colliding with Australia captain Ricky Ponting in the ongoing first Test at Lord’s.
During the first day’s play on Tuesday, Ponting was caught at short leg off 18-year-old left-arm quick Aamer for just 26. But as Aamer celebrated dismissing the star batsman, he crossed paths with Ponting and made contact with the Australia captain, who reacted angrily.
It was the second time in as many matches Aamer that had run into a batsman after taking his wicket, having collided with Michael Clarke during the second of Pakistan’s back-to-back Twenty20 wins over Australia in Edgbaston last week.
Clarke, though, patted an apologetic Aamer on the back. The umpires at Lord’s, England’s Ian Gould and South Africa’s Rudi Koertzen, did not feel any formal action under the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct was required.
However, an ICC statement issued on Wednesday said they did speak to Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi at the time of the incident.
