Vazquez on mark again
Spanish rider Efrén Vazquez delivered the third successive top-ten finish for Team Mahindra after claiming the eighth spot in the MGP3O Spanish Grand Prix on Monday.
The first three of the 17 races this season has seen both the Mahindra riders being among the points with one of them in the top ten. However, on the day, their second driver Miguel Oliveira just missed out on points after getting involved in a mishap and could only finish 15th.
The 18-year-old Oliveira had forced his way near a set of riders fighting for the fourth place after starting 15th on the grid. But the incident on the 11th lap of the race evaporated his chances of being among the points.
For the 26-year-old Vazquez, it was the reward for a strong ride, as he too was involved in a tight battle for the position with other riders. The race had to be stopped early after the second on the day and a red flag signalled the finish.
This is the second successive occasion that the race had to be stopped early due to an incident.
The riders had covered more than two thirds of the distance and the results were computed on the basis of the preceding lap, the 15th of a 23-lap race.
“The race was going well. We changed the bike setting from yesterday, and the feeling was quite good and getting better in the race. I was getting to the front of the second group when I touched another rider and we both crashed.
“I was not happy because I did not think it was my mistake. Now we will try again at the next race. The bike is getting better, and we are beginning to understand the best settings,” said Vázquez.
The next race is at Le Mans in France in two weeks’ time.
