Parthiva Sureshwaren fourth fastest in Spa
Parthiva Sureshwaren showed impressive pace during the practice session at the fourth round of the Formula Two championship in Spa (Belgium) on Friday.
The Chennai driver, the only Indian at the FIA-certified series, emerged fourth fastest in the Free Practice 2. His best lap of 2:07.231s was just 0.192seconds shy of table-topper Alex Fontana.
For Parthiva, one of India’s leading racers, it has been an agonising wait at F2 for three seasons as he’s yet to score a podium. If his practise form is anything to go by, the Chennai racer is all set to end the drought at the legendary Spa circuit.
Parthiva sounded confident about his chances after posting his best Friday performance.
“I am really pumped up for the weekend. My optimism stems from the fact that I have been posting good timing including last week’s official test session at the same track where I finished seventh fastest,” said Parthiva, who hopes to put his previous experience to good use at the Belgian track.
Last season Parthiva became a regular top-15 finisher with impressive drives at the final two rounds of Monza and Barcelona, as well as narrowly missing out on a points finish at Brands Hatch after working his way through the field to 11th from 19th on the grid. He ended the 2011 season 25th overall in the drivers’ standings.
