Narain Karthikeyan hopes to end bad luck at Monza
After starting from the back of the grid, Narain Karthikeyan moved up impressively and was running as high as 13th during last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, which started off with a mulitple-car pileup.
The eventual result, however, was a big disappointment for the Indian, who had a heavy crash on his 30th lap.
A wheelnut problem at second pitstop ruined his stupendous race as he spun into the barrier.
Narain, who suffered a knock to his left foot in the impact, is now ready for his next outing at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
“What happened was a shame because, up to that point, we were having a good race. Now, all that is behind me and I am looking forward to Monza,” Narain said.
The Autodromo di Monza was built in 1922 and is one of the few current circuits that celebrated a grand prix in the World Championship’s first season in 1950.
Monza is a very low downforce circuit, the quickest in the championship and the one with the fewest corners in the season. Therefore a good maximum speed is very important to achieve a good result.
Narain said the team would be introducing new package made specifically for the Italian track.
“Monza is a circuit that I really like and an interesting track for us.
We’re bringing a specific package for this event, with a low drag wing which we hope will help us to have a good performance.
It’s a fantastic circuit where I love to race with legendary corners such as the Parabolica and the Curva di Lesmo.
I hope not to run into bad luck at this event and to be able to convert a good performance into a positive result,” said the Coimbatore driver.
