Exclusive testing track in Chennai?
Narain Karthikeyan was in for a pleasant surprise when Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa told him that she has been tracking the Formula One driver’s career when he paid a courtesy call on her at the secretariat on Tuesday.
Narain, with his family members, met the CM before leaving for the weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix to be held in Barcelona.
When Narain met Jayalalithaa for the first time in 2005 after his debut in Formula One, they had discussed about developing an exclusive car testing facility in Chennai and the subject was reportedly discussed again on Tuesday.
With a major chunk of India’s automobile industry — as many as six manufacturers — is based in and around the city, the Tamil Nadu capital is touted as the Detroit of India and a full-fledged testing facility will further strengthen the city’s reputation.
Narain is also believed to be in talks with the tourism department to perform demo runs across the country and his Hispania Racing car would sport the ‘Incredible India’ logo once the deal is finalised.
