Diljith begins Toyota campaign in style
S. Diljith took the honour of winning the inaugural Toyota Etios race here at the Irungattukottai track on Saturday.
Though it was an exhibition contest ahead of Toyota Kirloskar’s first season as one-make series in 2013, the 19-year-old Thrissur boy, the reigning national junior saloon car champion, meant business by setting the track on fire and leaving the rest of the field in his wake.
Diljith built a big lead within three laps, but the safety car’s entry into the track following an accident cut the gap. Rain played havoc on afternoon’s activities as the second race was called off.
Earlier, Toyota Kirloskar Motor unveiled 25 drivers who will be behind the wheel of the Etios.
Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, is confident that the series with identical cars will provide a great platform for the budding drivers.
