Dissipate that negative energy

There is something about an expansive, spotlessly clean, clutter free and well-lit environment that is very conducive to spirituality.

Unfortunately in our over-crowded cities, even our places of worship have been affected by a variety of factors that have all taken a toll on the condition of their inner precincts. Noisy traffic, muddy roads and garish improvements in the name of modernisation have ruined the atmosphere and ambience of most places of worship, many of which were originally set amidst sylvan surroundings — all exuding a lot of good energy.
So while our control over places of worship may not be in our hands, there is a lot we can do to keep our own homes, ourselves and places of work free from negative energy. And while there are many ways to achieve this state, here are 10 things you could do quite easily.
First, the removal of unnecessary clutter is essential. Clutter has a way of attracting negative energy. Every-thing needs to be in its place — whether it is books, CDs, DVDs, gadgets, clothes or whatever. We all have things that we are emotionally attached to and find it difficult to let go of. Deal with this category in a way that makes you happy.
If space is your problem find people and organisations where you can donate unwanted stuff. Once the clutter is cleared, even small spaces look larger than they actually are.
Second, keep your home environment spotlessly clean. Once in a while clean out areas under the beds and cupboards, move the furniture around and do a thorough job. This is probably why we give our homes a make-over and junk all that unwanted stuff during festivals.
Third, open all the windows, drawers, cupboards and boxes periodically, so that fresh air and light can stream in. This is one way of clearing out all the stale and negative energy.
Fourth, set up a small terrace garden or put some potted plants on your balcony. This is not only very soothing to one’s eyes, but it also serves as a balm to the jaded spirit. Flowering plants in full bloom, leafy ones that sway in the breeze, colourful croutons etc., can do more than just pretty up a space.
Fifth, put some camphor or rock salt into a bowl and then dispose it after a few days. This will help in drawing the negative energies out. Light some incense sticks, bring in some fresh flowers and help to energise the atmosphere. Yet another method that is recommended is the ringing of bells all through the house especially in the corners as this drives away stale energies.
Sixth, when it comes to one’s persona, there is nothing like a daily bath or shower. Water has the ability to cleanse like nothing else can. Adding some salt to the water is often recommended by energy
healers.
Seventh, while physical cleansing is important, some spiritual and mental cleansing is also called for. Let go of the past — old baggage that one is fond of carrying and revisiting. Look ahead with a positive frame of mind and focus on finding solutions to your problems, not dwelling on them.
Eighth, be conscious of who you let into your inner space. You should consciously draw boundaries around yourself. People who bring negative energies — pessimistic, moody, envious, jealous or resentful types — are best kept at arm’s length.
Ninth, play some music by way of chants or listen to tapes of uplifting stories from the scriptures.
Tenth, stay anchored and before you hit the bed, balance your chakras. Meditate, practice reiki or pranic healing, pray and connect with God so that you feel at peace as you drift off to sleep. Learn yogic healing routines from a qualified teacher that you can practice during the day.
The above is by no means an exhaustive list but merely something you can use for starters. Over time you will find that even if there are negative energies around you, they don’t stick as much or build up in your home. The more people that there are in this world with positive energies, the better place this world will be.
