Keeping alive the issue of mobile phone calls made by jailed Kerala Congress (B) leader and former minister R. Balakrishna Pillai, CPIM veteran and opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan on Saturday demanded seizure of the Pillai’s cell phone for examination by police cyber cell.
Such an investigation was also important as Pillai was reported to have made a large number of calls from his mobile on the day when a teacher of a school owned by him was severely injured in a brutal attack, Achuthanandan said.
"Let his mobile phone be seized and entrusted to the cyber cell. He is reported to have made a large number of calls the day the teacher was attacked. Let the cyber experts examine the call details", he told reporters.
Meanwhile, Pillai's son and state Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar alleged that Achuthanandan was 'haunting' his father to wreak political vengeance and questioned the Marxist leader claiming a high moral ground over others.
"Achuthanandan has been asking for the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for every flimsy reason. Yesterday there was a High Court judgement upholding the decision to go ahead with a vigilance probe against Achuthanandan's son V. A. Arun Kumar. Will Achuthanandan resign in the light of the High Court order against his son?," Ganesh Kumar said.
Pillai, convicted in a corruption case in February this year, was shifted to a private hospital some days back for treatment. He landed in fresh trouble on September 28 after a TV channel aired his telephonic talk with one of its reporters.
Opposition LDF seized on the issue immediately, saying use of a mobile phone by an imprisoned person amounted to violation of prison rules, following which the Prison Department ordered an inquiry into the issue.
The Opposition has also demanded a CBI probe into the attack on Krishnakumar (47), a teacher in a Higher Secondary School managed by Pillai at Valakam in Kollam district.
